  With any review, one should start with the good points of which there are many. The bed was very comfortable, the cafe was good with a wide variety of food at a reasonable prices and the staff were friendly. The hotel facilities, reception, bar, restaurant were good.
  
  But on the downside, and the owners of the hotel must be painfully aware of this, the whole place is really overdue for a complete makeover that probably involves major demolition and start again. It was built in 1972, that’s 46 years ago, and not only do things deteriorate over time however well made, standards also change. We were in a six person unit that had a very small single combined shower space and toilet that had no natural ventilation and no fan. How was that ever allowed even in the 70s? As a consequence, when we arrived, the whole place smelt musty.
  So overall, this was the worst place we have stayed in in NZ but purely because it is really past its use by date.
